Gary Graham
Outdoor writer, photographer and presenter Gary Graham's long rap sheet of Baja and Southern California sportfishing experiences and published credits would fill many pages, but some highlights might include the more than 1,000 editions of his highly respected Baja California fly fishing report, two books on saltwater fly fishing, and hundreds of feature articles in publications such as:
Big Game Fishing Journal, Bluewater and Sportfishing, Destino, Fly Fishing in Saltwater, Gringo Gazette, Marlin Magazine, Pacific Coast Sportfishing (monthly column), Saltwater Fly Fishing, Saltwater Sportsman, Southwest Flyfishing, Sportfishing, The Drake, Western Outdoor News, and Western Outdoors Magazine.
Gary's current leadership activities in the sportfishing community include:
Avalon Tuna Club, member since the 1980s and editor of the club's "The Baitbox" monthly newsletter; San Diego Marlin Club, lifetime member; International Game Fish Association (IGFA), Baja California representative; Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF), certified fly casting instructor; Outdoor Writers of California, president; Outdoor Writers of America, member.
Although Gary is most widely known for his saltwater fly fishing expertise ranging from beach fishing for a multitude of species to offshore mastery of marlin fly fishing technique, he also holds captain's papers and boasts a long string of conventional tackle tournament wins and saltwater records going back to the days of running his Southern California boat Water Closet.
Gary's living room wall is covered with too many IGFA and Tuna Club record plaques to list here, but suffice it to say that it's impressive.
More than anything else, Gary's feature writing today speaks with the irrefutable voice of his great breadth of knowledge gained from decades of travel of all types in Baja California, thousands of days of fishing and hundreds of clients guided during many seasons logged by his Baja On The Fly sportfishing service, hundreds of deadlines successfully met, and the reliable perspective that results in articles of lasting value.
As one magazine editor put it, "[Gary], you always come through when we¹re in a pinch...always meet deadlines...have solid photography...not to mention your superior writing skills."
Covering fly, conventional, and ultralite tackle from the beach to the offshore banks, Gary's feature writing and photography provide the editor with eye-catching images, solid information, clean, sparkling copy, and the authority of a lifetime of dedicated engagement with sportfishing, on time, every time. |
